PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain fuel assemblies for a boiling water reactor which can be fabricated easily and can realize the improvement in both nuclear properties and limit output properties and a boiling water reactor using such fuel assemblies. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the fuel assemblies for the boiling water reactor formed by holding fuel rods laid out in a tetragonal lattice and one or plural water rods with a spacer like a bundle and surrounding the bundle of the fuel rods with a channel box 30 whose cross section is a pseudo square. In the fuel assemblies, the horizontal cross-section of the channel box 30 is shaped like a pseudo polygon in a part of the height direction of it by forming openings 34 extending in a longitudinal direction of the channel box 30 shaped and worked like a prism at the corners of it and fixing corner members 35 and 36 linking the space between adjoining channel walls sandwiching the openings 34 into them.
