<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inert gas generation device, and a fuel cell system using this, simple and downsized, doing without a high-pressure gas cylinder or its accessory equipment for storage of inert gas. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system 1 is provided with an inert gas generation device 5 supplying inert gas for purge. The inert gas generation device 5 is provided with an air electrode 51 having oxygen-reducing catalyst, a reducer electrode 53 having a reducer-oxidizing catalyst , an electrolyte 52 laid between the air electrode 51 and the reducer electrode 53, and a connection circuit 9 electrically connecting the air electrode 51 and the reducer electrode 53. A controller 20, when the inert gas is needed, supplies air to the air electrode 51, generates the inert gas with oxygen removed from the air by electrochemically reducing oxygen contained in the air into water at the air electrode, and supplies it to a fuel cell main body 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
