<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component suction position setting gauge capable of highly accurately setting the suction position of a component in component mounting in a short time, and to provide a component suction method. <P>SOLUTION: The gauge is provided with a body part composed of a transparent roughly rectangular plate member; a scale for specifying a position formed visibly on the body part; and a positioning means formed on the body part for positioning the body part along an axis in the longitudinal direction of a component supply tape, for supplying the component to a component mounting device and an axis in the widthwise direction of the component supply tape orthogonal to the axis. The body part is applied to the component supply tape by utilizing the positioning means, and the component suction position of the component housed in the component supply tape can be set by utilizing the scale.
