A recording device (1) that includes: a main image data acquisition section (11) acquiring main image data in real time; a sub image data generation section (13b) generating sub image data, which can be recorded on a recording medium together with the main image data based on a predetermined rule using a predetermined format, and is the image data defined to be displayable through overlay on a display image as a reproduction result of the main image data; an associated information acquisition section (13b) acquiring associated information of predetermined contents when the main image data is acquired; a sub image data generation control section exercising control over the sub image data generation section to generate the sub image data by which the contents of the associated information are displayed in a predetermined layout; and a recording section (15) recording on the recording medium, in accordance with the format, the main image data and the sub image data.
