PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of preventing continuous emission of laser beam to the same area when any abnormality occurs in a scanning part. SOLUTION: The projector comprises a light source part 101 which emits laser beam, and the scanning part which scans the laser beam emitted from the light source part 101. The projector further comprises a projection window 110 disposed in a scanning range of laser beam by the scanning part to reflect a part of the laser beam and transmit the remainder; a light receiving element 111 which receives the laser beam reflected by the projection window 110; and light source output reduction means 112 and 102 which reduce the output of laser beam emitted from the light source part 101 based on the light quantity of the laser beam received by the light receiving element 111.
