The present invention relates to a mobile terminal and a control method thereof. The mobile terminal can input a command more conveniently. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the control method of the mobile terminal includes the following steps: detecting a pointer in an image captured through a camera; determining a position of the detected pointer; and executing a function corresponding to the certain area when a phase difference occurs in the form of a certain pattern while the position of the pointer stays within a certain area.
