A package (10) for shipping a fragile object (A) including two honeycomb frame members (12, 14), each including a honeycomb core (18) having a plurality of abutting partition walls (22) and opposed hollow-cell faces (20). A face sheet (26, 28) is secured to each of the hollow-cell faces. A cavity (30) can be formed by a full punch-cut through the full thickness of each of the honeycomb frame members. Alternatively, a cavity and cushioning bed can be formed in each of the frame members by compressively deforming a portion of the honeycomb core of each of the honeycomb frame members. A sheet of film (24) extends over the cavity in each of the frame members. The two frame members are folded together and the packaged object is sandwiched between the sheets of film. The package is suspended in the cavity and cushioned by the cushioning bed in each of the frame members.
