A distributed wireless online access system comprises a plurality wireless units (110) forming primary wireless network, and plurality of secondary wireless units (160). Each primary unit may comprise a transmitter, receiver, and programmed processor for routing data packets. Each secondary unit may comprise a transmitter, receiver, and programmed processor for receiving, processing, generating, and transmitting data packets. A portal unit (170) may provide a connection or link between the primary wireless network and external communications system (such as Internet), thereby providing access to the external communications network to all primary and secondary wireless units. A provider of wireless online access may collect access fees from subscribers having primary and/or secondary wireless units and may pay provider revenue out to subscribers having primary wireless units. One or more primary units may be mobile, resulting in a transient primary wireless network having a dynamically varying network topology. |
