<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent a state in which light emission inferiority occurs, even when an defective part, in which comparatively large leakage current flows, exists at the side of a simple matrix display panel of a driving object during reverse bias voltage application. <P>SOLUTION: During light emission control, cathode rays B<SB>1</SB>-B<SB>64</SB>are scanned by a scanning drive circuit 15, control in which light-emitting elements of intersection positions of the cathode rays and anode rays are emitted is performed by synchronizing with the scanning and connecting desired anode rays A<SB>1</SB>-A<SB>256</SB>to current sources 13<SB>1</SB>-13<SB>256</SB>, by a signal line drive circuit 12. In addition, error light emission preventing control, in which the reverse bias voltage of a state in which levels are differed in a plurality of stages, in response to the positions of the cathode rays, is applied to the cathode rays B<SB>1</SB>-B<SB>64</SB>in a non-scanning state by synchronizing with the light emission control is performed.
