PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor almost free from coloring by contamination with impurity or fine inorganic crystalline powder for phosphor. SOLUTION: A precursor compound containing at least elements of M, Si and O (wherein M is at least one kind of element selected from Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba) and as necessary containing an element of R (wherein R is at least one kind of element selected from Mn, Ce, Pr, Nd, Eu, Tb, Dy, Er, Tm and Yb) and as necessary containing an element of N is subjected to heat treatment in a reduced nitride atmosphere in order to decrease an oxygen content in the precursor and increase a nitrogen content to synthesize inorganic compound powder.
