Systems and methods for supplying power to and cooling dental laser systems

A dental laser system is configured to provide high peak laser power, low duty cycle laser pulses, yielding a low average laser power and thus a reduced need for cooling. The laser power system may be configured to provide the electrical power required to produce the low average laser power and not the high peak laser power, and may include a capacitor bank section configured to provide the electrical power needed to produce the high peak power laser pulses. The cooling system may be configured to provide laser cooling for the low average power level and thus may not require a refrigeration unit.

1. A laser system comprising:
a laser for generating a pulsed laser beam; a controller configured to trigger the laser at a specified peak output laser power and at an average output laser power of less than approximately 50% of the specified peak output laser power; a power source supplying input laser power to the laser and rated at less than input laser power corresponding to the specified peak output laser power; and a capacitor bank comprising at least one capacitor and configured for charging the at least one capacitor from the power source and for delivering to the laser at least a portion of an input laser power corresponding to the specified peak output laser power during an ON duration of a pulse.
