PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which uses a twist ball as a display medium and can obtain excellent display characteristics, and a method of driving the image display device.SOLUTION: An image display device comprises: a display part which includes a plurality of display electrodes, a common electrode facing the plurality of display electrodes, and a display medium disposed between the display electrodes and the common electrode and dispersed with spherical particles having different charge polarities in different color regions, and rotates the spherical particles by a potential difference between the display electrodes and the common electrode to perform display; and a control part which applies a voltage between the display electrodes and the common electrode to rewrite the display of the display part. In a predetermined display holding period for holding the display of the display part, the control part applies a first pulse between the common electrode and the display electrodes m times per unit time (m is an integer of two or more) during a predetermined period of the display holding period to write the display on the display part, and in a predetermined write period immediately before the display holding period, the control part applies a second pulse between the common electrode and the display electrodes n times (n is an integer of two or more) during a predetermined period of the write period. |
