An augmented reality imaging system comprising: a head mounted augmented reality display unit (30), a real-time imaging device (20), such as an ultrasound probe, that captures a real-time video image (122) of a target; a processor;and means for sensing the position and attitude of the head mounted unit(30) and the real-time imaging device (20). The system adjusts the real-time video image (122) so that it appears, in the head-mounted display unit (30), to have been taken from the point of view of the user(150). Thus, a user (150) is able to move his/her head around a point of interest (12) to better gauge the "missing dimension"in what would otherwise be a 2D image. By placing virtual markers (162) in the AR output displayed in the user's head unit(30), and by matching them to known points of interest in a subject, the system is able to correct for displacement etc. in offline (previously captured) 3D imagery (132), such as an MRI scan,to the actual position of those features. |
