PURPOSE: An apparatus and method is provided to calculate an actual ignition timing for engine with accuracy in a convenient way. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for measuring RPM and ignition timing of an engine utilizing a spark voltage supplied from a secondary side of an ignition coil and a crank signal of a crank shaft, comprises a magnetic pickup coil for guiding a secondary spark voltage of the ignition coil, a signal processing unit(11) for processing a magnetic pickup signal led by the magnetic pickup coil and outputting a spherical wave signal, a low pass filter(12) for filtering a crank signal which is output per revolution of the crank shaft, a micro controller(13) for calculating RPM and ignition timing of engine using the magnetic pickup signal of spherical wave output from the signal processing unit and the low pass filtered crank signal, and a display unit(14) for displaying onto a screen the RPM and ignition timing calculated by the micro controller. A method comprises a first step of storing a first crank signal input time when the first crank signal is input, a second step of storing a magnetic pickup signal input time when the magnetic pickup signal is input, a third step of storing a second crank signal input time when the second crank signal is input, a fourth step of obtaining cycle of crank signal by a difference of the second crank signal input time and the first crank signal input time, and obtaining RPM of the crank shaft, and a fifth step of calculating ignition timing by a time required for one-degree revolution of the crank shaft and the difference between the magnetic pickup signal input time and the second crank signal input time.
