PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remover for efficiently removing soot without damaging a silica tube. SOLUTION: The suction-type soot remover has a hollow suction tube 11 with its one end located inside a silica tube 1 which should become an optical fiber body material of the target product and the other end coaxially connected to a hollow shaft 18 via a universal coupling 14, units 15 and 16 for driving the hollow shaft 18 around its axis, a suction hose 19 communicating with the hollow shaft 18 and a rocking device 17 for rocking the hollow shaft 18 and the rotational driving units 15 and 16 in a direction parallel to the axis of the hollow tube 11. |
