<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color composition which hardly solidifies at the top end of a coating liquid injection port in a coating apparatus and which is suitable to prevent coating defect, and to provide a color filter having a filter segment and a black matrix having no coating defect. <P>SOLUTION: The color composition contains a pigment, resin and solvent, wherein the solvent consists of a solvent (a) whose solubility parameter differs by 0 (cal/cm<SP>3</SP>)<SP>1/2</SP>to less than 1.5 (cal/cm<SP>3</SP>)<SP>1/2</SP>from the solubility parameter of the resin, and a solvent (b) whose solubility parameter differs by 1.5 (cal/cm<SP>3</SP>)<SP>1/2</SP>to less than 5.0 (cal/cm<SP>3</SP>)<SP>1/2</SP>from the solubility parameter of the resin. The proportion of the solvent (b) is 0.5 to 30 wt.% with respect to the entire amount of the solvent.
