<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lift apparatus requiring a saved installation area and having a saved manufacturing cost and power consumption, and a method therefor. <P>SOLUTION: Wires L4-1 and R4-1 are fixed at the left and right side bottoms of a curtain 1 at one ends. The wires L4-1 and R4-1 are engaged with small pulleys 11-1, 11-2, and 11-3 to be routed. Large pulleys 12-1 and 12-2 are guided so as to be horizontally moved, and the wires are wound around the large pulleys so as to be turned back and fixed at the other ends. A carriage 6 moving horizontally and positioned on the right sides of the large pulleys 12-1 and 12-2 is provided with a shaft, and the shaft presses the large pulleys 12-1 and 12-2 to the left side to lift the lower end of the curtain 1. The large pulleys 12-1 and 12-2 having reached the left ends are usually prevented from moving to the right side by a lock plate.
