DISPERSION COMPENSATION CONTROL DEVICE AND DISPERSION CONTROLLED VARIABLE SEARCH METHOD

To increase the search speed of a dispersion controlled variable over conventional techniques, a dispersion compensation control device comprises a dispersion controller (3), a quality index value generating unit (4) for generating a quality index value indicating the quality of an optical signal outputted from the dispersion controller, and a search unit (5) for searching for a dispersion controlled variable for the dispersion controller (3) so that the quality index value from the quality information generating unit (4) may be a most suitable one. The search unit (5) has a bisection method search section (10) for roughly searching for a dispersion controlled variable leading to a preferable quality index value generated by the quality index value generating unit (4) in a dispersion controllable range of the dispersion controller (3) and a sweep search section (20) for closely searching, by sweeping a dispersion controlled variable leading to the most suitable quality index value generated by the quality index value generating unit (4) in a limit range using the dispersion controlled variable searched for by the bisection method search section (10) as a reference.
