PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic feeder capable of stably and smoothly feeding a material to be recorded at all times irrespective of the number of set sheets of materials to be recorded and enabling an increase in the maximum number of set sheets of the material to be recorded. SOLUTION: This automatic feeder 1 comprises a hopper 16, a pushup means 30 for exerting a pushup force Q on the hopper 16, contact rollers 31, 31 for reducing the pressing force q on the roller 14 for feeding the pushed-up material P to be recorded, a swing arm 32 swung around a swing pivot B, a roller 14 for feeding attached at the swing free end of the swing arm 32, and a biasing means 37 for so biasing the swing arm 32 that the roller 14 for feeding is brought into contact with the upper surface of the uppermost material P to be recorded. The hopper 16 is so formed as to be moved in parallel while maintaining the tilted state of the material P to be recorded. A separation pad 38 can be installed on the downstream side of the contact position N between the roller 14 for feeding and the uppermost material P to be recorded in the feeding direction A.
