PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold clamping device in which large thrust is generated, which can be continuously driven in a short cycle, moreover, can be miniaturized, and in which cost can be made to be low. SOLUTION: The mold clamping device includes a first fixed part in which a first mold is attached, a second fixed part which is arranged keeping a predetermined distance from the first fixed part, a coupling member installed between the first and second fixed parts, a movable part which is arranged freely movably along the coupling part and in which a second mold is attached, and a linear motor 214 of a cylindrical shape which connects with either of the movable part or the second fixed part and includes a movable element freely movably arranged and a stator 212. Since the linear motor 214 of a cylindrical shape includes the movable element and stator 212, the area of a permanent magnet of the movable element can be enlarged enough only by that the radial dimension is slightly enlarged.
