An image forming apparatus including a photosensitive member that is rotationally driven, a light irradiation unit configured to irradiate the photosensitive member with light to thereby form an electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive member and a processing unit configured to form an image, the image forming apparatus comprising:
a detecting unit configured to detect an output generated via the processing unit when an electrostatic latent image for correction formed by light irradiation being performed by the light irradiation unit passes through a position facing the processing unit; and a controlling unit configured to correct a condition for forming an electrostatic latent image for image formation based on a result of the detection by the detecting unit, wherein a voltage applied to the processing unit is higher in a case where the processing unit forms the electrostatic latent image for correction than in a case where the processing unit forms the electrostatic latent image for image formation, or a light intensity of the light irradiation unit is higher in a case where the processing unit forms the electrostatic latent image for correction than in a case where the processing unit forms the electrostatic latent image for image formation.
