The present invention relates to: a catalyst for synthesizing a carbon nanotube, containing amorphous alpha-alumina; and a method for preparing a carbon nanotube by using the same and, to: a catalyst containing amorphous alpha-alumina, capable of controlling the growth of a carbon nanotube without deterioration in the quality of the carbon nanotube; and a method for preparing a carbon nanotube by using the same.
