PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve workability of paper supply works relative to respective paper feed cassettes in a paper feeder having the multiple paper feed cassettes aligned horizontally along the sheet material feeding direction. SOLUTION: The multiple paper feed cassettes 62 and 63 aligned along the sheet material feeding direction extending approximately horizontally are provided in this paper feeder 6. The paper feed cassettes 62 and 63 are integrated and can be simultaneously drawn out. The upper surface height position of the paper feed cassette 62 positioned on the upstream side of the sheet material feeding direction is set higher than the upper surface height position of the paper feed cassette 63 positioned on the downstream side and a carrier passage 623 for recording paper sheets taken out the upstream side paper feed cassette 2 is formed in the upper space of the downstream side paper feed cassette 63.
