A method and apparatus for processing Pilot channel supervision in an idle state in a wireless communication system is described. The pilot strength of a pilot in an active set, a candidate set and a neighbor set that are on the same frequency is monitored. It is determined if the strength of all of the pilots monitored goes below the value specified by a PilotDrop. A pilot supervision timer is started and it is determined if the strength of at least one of the pilots goes above the value specified by PilotDrop while the pilot supervision timer is counting down. The pilot supervision timer is reset and disabled.
