A plasma display apparatus and an image processing method thereof are provided to prevent a noise by performing image processing on false contour generation and non-generation regions using different image processing schemes. A plasma display apparatus includes a false contour determining unit(310), a boundary correction unit(320), a false contour compensation unit(330), and an image signal selection unit(360). The false contour determining unit determines whether an image signal corresponds to a false contour generation region, a false contour non-generation region, or a boundary region. The boundary correction unit redistributes the image signal of the boundary region to the false contour generation or non-generation regions. The false contour compensation unit adds/subtracts a predetermined gradation value to/from gradation values of respective pixels of an image signal input from outside. The image signal selection unit selects the compensated image signal from the false contour compensation unit based on information on a false contour generation region from the boundary correction unit and outputs the selected image signal.
