PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently obtaining a highly purified succinic acid from a succinic acid alkali metal salt by a simple separating and purifying method. SOLUTION: This method for producing the succinic acid comprises (1) a process of adding sulfuric acid to a liquid containing the alkali metal salt of succinic acid, (2) a process of precipitating and removing the crystal of an alkali metal sulfuric aid salt from the liquid, and (3) a process of precipitating for recovering the succinic acid crystal. The removal of the alkali metal sulfuric acid salt crystal in the process (2) is performed by concentrating and heating the liquid added with the sulfuric acid in the process (1) to precipitate the alkali metal sulfuric acid salt crystal and performing solid-liquid separation in a state that the succinic acid is dissolved.
