PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side sill of an automobile which is constituted so as to increase the cross-sectional second moment without increasing an outer dimension and weight. SOLUTION: The side sill 1 of the automobile allows flanges 2d, 3d formed at upper and lower parts of opening end edges of inner and outer panels combined with a reinforcing panel 4 interposed therebetween by enabling opening faces of the inner panel 2 and the outer panel 3 having an almost channel-shaped cross section which intersect with each other in a longitudinal direction to face each other. A step 5 which protrudes downward at the side wall 3b side is provided at the lower wall of the outer panel. The reinforcing panel has an almost channel-shaped cross section which opens to the same direction as that of the outer panel.
