Provided are an operation input device, an operation input method, and a program for suppressing an influence of a disturbance and improving gesture detection accuracy. Included are: infrared irradiation means configured to radiate infrared; capturing means configured to detect the infrared to capture an image; luminance calculating means configured to calculate, in a captured image which is the image captured by the capturing means, a luminance difference between luminance of a first area irradiated with the infrared by the infrared irradiation means and luminance of a second area arranged outside the first area; infrared control means configured to adjust an irradiation intensity of the infrared to be radiated from the infrared irradiation means such that the luminance difference calculated by the luminance calculating means becomes a predetermined target value; image processing means configured to detect a shape of an indication object from the captured image; determination means configured to determine an operation by the indication object from the shape detected by the image processing means; and command means configured to make a device to be operated perform a function corresponding to the operation determined by the determination means. |
