1. A hydrazinyl lipidoid of formula (X): wherein RA is hydrogen, an optionally substituted aliphatic group, an optionally substituted heteroaliphatic group, or a group of formula (XII): wherein
R3 and R4 are, independently, hydrogen, an optionally substituted aliphatic group, or an optionally substituted heteroaliphatic group;R5 is an optionally substituted aliphatic group or an optionally substituted heteroaliphatic group; andX is O or N; RB is hydrogen, an optionally substituted aliphatic group, an optionally substituted heteroaliphatic group, an optionally substituted aryl group, an optionally substituted heteroaryl group, an optionally substituted cycloalkyl group, an optionally substituted heterocycloalkyl group, or a group of formula (XII), wherein R3, R4, R5, and X are as defined above; RC is hydrogen, an optionally substituted aliphatic group, or a group of formula (XII), wherein R3, R4, R5, and X are as defined above; and RD is a group of formula (XII), wherein R3, R4, R5, and X are as defined above; and wherein if RB is hydrogen, neither of RA and RC can also be hydrogen; any one or more of R3, R4, R5, and RC together with another R3, R4, or R5, or one of RA and RB optionally defines a carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring system; and RA and RB together optionally define a carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring system.
