A surface acoustic wave device which is provided with: a piezoelectric substrate (10), one main surface of which is provided with an IDT electrode (13) that excites surface acoustic waves; a cover layer (20) which is arranged at a position facing the above-described one main surface so as to cover the IDT electrode (13); a supporting member (30) which is provided around the IDT electrode (13) on the above-described one main surface in an upright manner, and which supports a piezoelectric substrate (10)-side surface of the cover layer (20) in such a manner that the cover layer (20) is at a distance from the IDT electrode (13); and a bonding member (40) which is provided on the piezoelectric substrate (10)-side surface of the cover layer (20), and which bonds the cover layer (20) and the supporting member (30) with each other. At least a part of the cover layer (20)-side end portion of the supporting member (30) is positioned within the bonding member (40); and the size of the bonding member (40) in the normal direction to the above-described one main surface is smaller than the size of the supporting member (30) in the above-described normal direction. |
