PURPOSE: Provided are red phosphor having excellent contrast and color purity, which shows red color after firing without adhering a red pigment to the phosphor, and is easy to produce, and a method for producing the same. CONSTITUTION: The red phosphor is represented by formula: (Y2-x,Ax)O2S:EU(wherein A is selected from Sr or Ca, and 0.46 mol<=x<=0.76 mol). The red phosphor is produced by the method comprising the steps of (i) adding pure water to Y2O3:Eu2O3 to form a mixture; (ii) adding any one selected from CaO or SrO to the mixture; (iii) adding KF which is a flux to the mixture; and (iv) firing the mixture in a Al2O3 crucible.
