The present invention relates to the formation of coatings in an electric field, mainly coatings having a complex composition and comprising materials having a different electrical conductivity, wherein said coatings are applied onto substrates, including mobile ones, which are also made of materials having a different electrical conductivity. This invention also allows for the simultaneous dual-sided application of coatings. The device of the present invention includes electrodes that define a chamber in which the powder is placed, wherein said electrodes are capable of mutual displacement. The electrode on which the coating is applied can be arranged within the chamber which is defined by the electrode having the opposite polarity. The powder may consist of particles of materials having a different electric conductivity, i.e. conductive and/or semi-conductor and/or dielectric materials. The device can further be fitted with a heater or a laser radiation source. The atmosphere inside the chamber and between the electrodes can further be rarefied until vacuum is achieved.
