PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-reliability optical amplifier the circuit scale of which can be reduced by providing an optical switch which is connected to two independently excited pumping light sources and can selectively output the light from one of the light sources. SOLUTION: Optical signals transmitted through a signal light transmitting optical path fiber 10A are outputted to another signal light transmitting optical path fiber 10B after the signals are coupled with each other by means of 1,480 nm/1,550 nm WDM optical coupler 4A and amplified by excited light. The excited light is excited by means of exciting diodes 7A and 7B and inputted to an optical fiber mounting substrate 1A. The excited light rays inputted to the substrate 1A are respectively made incident to the different incident ports of an optical switch 5A. The switch 5A selects either one of the excited light rays by means of a switch switching circuit 6A and outputs the selected excited light to the coupler 4A. When abnormality occurs in the selected one of the exciting diodes 7A and 7B of pumping light source mounting substrates 1B and 1C, only the abnormal substrate is exchanged by switching the switch 5A without interrupting the operation of the system. |
