PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize color gamut mapping in which a high precision evaluation function based on visual characteristics is available freely. SOLUTION: Using outline information constituted of a plurality of polygons and representing the color gamut of a device in a device independent color space, and an evaluation function for evaluating the relation of a color coordinate on the outside of color gamut of the device and color coordinate in the polygon constituting the outline information in the device independent color space, color coordinate in the polygon where the evaluation function indicates a predetermined evaluation function value is searched for the color coordinate on the outside of color gamut of the device.
