PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems in which, since a conventional device performs cooling in an efficient manner but without setting a target time limit, it cannot perform cooling in a required time, or it performs too much cooling which requires heat retention or reheating or performs unnecessary forcible cooling, or it produces variation in finishing temperature because the time is set empirically. SOLUTION: This cooling device comprises a forcible cooling means 102, a temperature detecting means 103, a counting means 104, a cooling target time period setting means 106 for setting a target time period or a target time for cooling down to a predetermined target temperature, an object temperature predicting means 107 for predicting an attaining temperature in the target time period for an object from a temperature change in a predetermined time, and a control means 108. The control means 108 uses the forcible cooling means 102 to start cooling at the time when determining that the temperature predicted by the object temperature predicting means 107 cannot attain the target temperature in the target time period.
