PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device, a region detection method, and a computer program capable of appropriately detecting a region where a document image should be cut out from a readout image.SOLUTION: An image processing circuit 27 of an image processing device comprises: a first color component image generation unit 201 that generates a color component image obtained by extracting a specific color component from an input image; an expanded color component image generation unit 202 that generates an expanded color component image obtained by expanding a specific pixel in the color component image; a first edge pixel extraction unit 203 that extracts an edge pixel from the expanded color component image; and a document region detection unit 214 that detects a document region from the edge pixel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
