PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone device capable of eliminating wasting time duration like spending time aimlessly when put on hold from the opponent side during speech. SOLUTION: The telephone device 1 is provided with a handset 9 having a receiving part 10 and a transmitting part 11, a speaker 6, a selection means 13, which selects a reproduction means for reproducing the transmitted information from among the reproduction means selected from the receiving part and the speaker, a receiving level detection means 7 for detecting a receiving level of the transmitted information, a receiving level attenuating means 4 for attenuating the receiving level, a switching means 5, and a control means 8. The control means actuates the switching means corresponding to the selection by the selection means and makes the reproduction means to reproduce. The control means makes the receiving level detection means to detect the receiving level after receiving the information that the speaker is selected. The control means actuates the receiving level attenuating means so as to reduce reproduction sound volume from the speaker. When the receiving level exceeding a prescribed threshold is detected, the reproduction sound volume from the speaker is made higher than the reduced reproduction sound volume.
