PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electronic equipment capable of protecting, simply and at a low cost, a magnetic disk unit incorporated in the electronic equipment which is considered to be carried for small movement or the like. SOLUTION: The electronic equipment of the present invention comprises: a magnetic disk unit including a magnetic head and a magnetic disk; a control section that controls the magnetic disk unit; a case which houses the magnetic disk unit and the control section therein and includes an opening; and an infrared proximity sensor that detects presence/absence of a target positioned oppositely across the opening. If the infrared proximity sensor determines absence of the target during operation of the magnetic disk unit, the control section allows the magnetic head to be retracted from a recording position of the magnetic disk.
