PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of virtual tapes to be affected by a fault when the fault occurs in a physical disk in a storage system. SOLUTION: A file assigning method is used for a virtual tape library system which includes the storage system having a plurality of logical disks and assigns a file on the virtual tape to the logical disks. In the virtual tape library system, a sub-group including not less than one logical disks is set in the logical disk, so as to hold sub-group configuration information, which indicates correspondence relation between the sub-group and the logical disk, and the file on the virtual tape is assigned to the logical disk, based on the sub-group configuration information.
