A folding chair (100) includes first and second parts (110, 120) each having at least one leg (112, 122), a total number legs of the first and second parts being at least three. A third part (130) of the chair (100) forms a seat and is pivotally connected to the first and second parts (110, 120). A connecting assembly (124) for pivotally connecting the first part (110) to the second part (120) is a piston assembly having a top end and a bottom end. The top end is pivotally connected to the first part (110) to form a pivot (129) at which the first part (110) pivots relative to the second part (120) between an open position and a closed position. The bottom end is connected to the second part (120). The connection between the top end and the first part (110) forms the only physical connection between the first and second parts (110, 120) to eliminate cutting dangers to the user.
