PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system capable of preventing luminance irregularity from being easily viewed. SOLUTION: This lighting system 10 is provided with: a light source 3 composed of discharge tube pairs 30a and 30b each including a pair of discharge tubes 31 having terminal parts 31a connected to each other through a conductive wire 32; and inverter boards 6 connected to terminal parts 31b of the discharge tubes 31 through conductive wires 33. The discharge tube pair 30a is arranged such that the terminal parts 31a are positioned on one side of a chassis 1; the discharge tube pair 30b is arranged such that the terminal parts 31a are positioned on the other side of the chassis 1; the discharge tubes 31 of the discharge tube pair 30a and the discharge tubes 31 of the discharge tube pair 30b are alternately arranged one by one along the direction B; and the conductive wires 32 and 33 are extracted to a front surface 1a side and a rear surface 1b side of the chassis 1, respectively.
