A surface light emitting device is provided to minimize size of a lamp and increase luminance by securing coating area of electrode with maximum. A plurality of discharge spaces isolated with a discharge space partitioning section are formed. A lamp body generates light in the discharge space and emits the light. Exhaust lines(60a,60b) are formed in a lamp body edge part with being connected with discharge spaces. A sealant seals the edge part of the lamp body hermetically. An electrode(30) applies discharge voltage in the lamp body. The separation distance(D) of sealant coated onto the lamp body edge part and the electrode is 0.1~1.5mm.
