PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which, when a vehicle ahead applies the brake while night running, can recognize the vehicle ahead appropriately by an image recognition method and identify the vehicle type of the vehicle ahead appropriately. SOLUTION: The image recognition apparatus comprises: an image information acquisition means for acquiring image information around one's own vehicle; an another vehicle image extraction means 12 for extracting an image of another vehicle existing around one's own vehicle; and a vehicle information acquisition means 18 which subjects the arrangement of light sources provided in a vehicle lamp of the other vehicle to image recognition on the extracted image and obtains the vehicle information of the other vehicle on the basis of the arrangement of the light sources in the vehicle lamp which has been subjected to image recognition.
