A method for setting the state of an AV device is provided to prevent theft by operating an AV device through vehicle identity information. A method for setting the state of an AV device comprises: a step(310) for checking vehicle key input state; a step(320) for decoding vehicle identity information and seed key by receiving the vehicle identity information and the seed key encrypted from an electronic control unit in case the vehicle key input state is in ACC state or IGN state; and a step(335) for setting up the status information by comparing identity information stored in advance with the decoded identity information.
