<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for predicting the data size of transmission data obtained when image data are converted according to a set conversion condition to promptly notify a user of the prediction result. <P>SOLUTION: A table obtained by relating a conversion condition for converting image data inputted from a scanner 221 to information indicative of a variation of a data size when the image data are converted according to each conversion condition is retained in an HDD 214. When a specific conversion condition is set through operation screens of Fig. 4 (not shown), Fig. 5 (not shown) and Fig. 14 (not shown), the data size of transmission data obtained when image data inputted from the scanner 221 are converted is predicted using information of the retained table (Fig. 7 (not shown) and Fig. 8 (not shown)).
