Appts. for removal of pollutants from water in drainage pipes comprises: (a) a vessel 94), sealed by a lid (18), placed in drainage pipe with prim. upstream pipe (2) and sec. downstream pipe (3). (b) solid support body (12,13), supporting sheet filtration material (14,15) for chemical retention of toxic material. (c) slide assembly (10,11) fixed within vessel (4), on which solid body (12,13) is removably mounted. Once positioned, the body (12,13) defines an upstream compartment (19) and a downstream compartment (20).Pref., the vessel (4) is rectangular with orifices (2,3) on opposing sides (5,6). Slides (10,11) are fixed to base (7) of vessel (4) parallel to sides (5,6). The second, outlet, port (3) is at the base (7) of the vessel (4). The height of the filter support body (12,13) is slightly higher than that of the second port (3). Filtration material (14,15) is non woven polypropylene with functional groups grafted on via radicals. The different filtration sheet materials (14,15) on different support bodies (12,13) have different retention properties, pref. one being an anionic exchanger and the other being a cationic exchanger.
