PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt tension adjusting device, capable of adjusting tension of a belt, by installing the same automatic tensioner in the same position of an engine block, when constituting a plurality of kinds of engines by placing mutually different cylinder heads on the same engine block. SOLUTION: This belt tension adjusting device has a pulley arm 8 rockable around a fulcrum shaft 7 fixed to the engine block 2, a tension pulley 9 rotatably installed on its pulley arm 8, and the automatic tensioner 10 energizing a rod 12 arranged by projecting from the opening end of a cylinder 11 outside the cylinder 11 by a return spring 13 incorporated into the cylinder 11, by installing the cylinder 11 having opening one end in the engine block 2, and presses down the tension pulley 9 to the belt 5 by energizing the pulley arm 8 by the rod 12 of its automatic tensioner 10.
