Use of long-chain alcohol derivatives for the treatment of alopecia areata

Disclosed is a method of treating alopecia greata using a compound having the formula: wherein R₁ is C₁₀-C₂₄ alkenyl; R₂ is H, C₁-C₆ alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl, where any aryl moiety may be unsubstituted or substituted by nitro, cyano, halo, hydroxyl, NR₆R₇, or CR₈R₈NR₆R₇, where R₆, R₇, and R₈ each independently is H or C₁-C₆ alkyl; and R₃ and R₄ each independently is H or C₁-C₆ alkyl, or R₃ and R₄ together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a 5-7 membered heterocyclic saturated ring optionally containing an additional N or O, which is unsubstituted or substituted by C₁-C₆ alkyl, or an enantiomer or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the compound.
