PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information management device and an information management method that can efficiently manage information in a home network system. SOLUTION: The information management device 50 connected in communication with information household electric appliances 40A-40C and mediating communication between a cellphone 10 remotely operating the information household electric appliances 40A-40C, and the information household electric appliances 40A-40C, comprises household electric appliance proxy sections 54A-54C communicating with the information household electric appliances 40A-40C by protocols corresponding to the respective information household electric appliances 40A-40C, connected to one another by a unified protocol and storing metadata (household electric appliance information) related to the information household electric appliances 40A-40C. Since the household electric appliance proxy sections 54A-54C can detect household electric appliance information stored in the other household electric appliance proxy sections 54A-54C, information can be efficiently managed in the home network system.
