PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device for moving automatically a worn portion to be replaced with a less worn portion, without replacing a sliding sheet partially worn. SOLUTION: This fixing device is provided with a fixing roller, a fixing belt, a pressurizing means for bringing the fixing belt into pressure contact with the fixing roller, a separation means for deforming elastically an elastic layer of the fixing roller by bringing the fixing belt into pressure contact with the fixing roller, a holding means for holding the pressurizing means and the separation means, and the sliding sheet arranged between the fixing belt and the pressurizing means and between the fixing belt and the separation means, and fixes a toner image on a recording material by a nip part formed between the fixing roller and the fixing belt. The sliding sheet has a plurality of slots along a rotational direction of the fixing belt. The plurality of slots are engaged respectively with a plurality of protrusions provided in a position of a rotation-directional upstream with respect to the nip part in the holding means, and portions positioned in a rotation-directional downstream of the slots are engaged with the protrusions in an initial stage in use.
